June 24, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) today announced more than $1 million in impact fees paid by Marcellus Shale drilling companies will benefit residents of the 11th District. In addition to the municipal funding, Butler County will receive more than $1.6 million from the impact fees.
“The natural gas industry continues to strengthen our local economy by creating jobs and generating revenue,” said Mustello. “These impact fees give our communities the flexibility to invest in infrastructure, public safety and other essential services that directly benefit Butler County residents.”
The following impact fee disbursements in the 11th District were announced:
• Buffalo Township - $81,433.
• Butler Township - $153,991.
• Chicora Borough - $4,193.
• City of Butler - $56,301.
• Clearfield Township - $81,006.
• Clinton Township - $115,992.
• Donegal Township - $55,488.
• East Butler Borough - $4,408.
• Jefferson Township - $113,539.
• Oakland Township - $109,522.
• Saxonburg Borough - $5,588.
• Summit Township - $111,241.
• Winfield Township - $173,674.
Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from the drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The rest of the money goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, a portion of which is provided to counties. The remaining funds are used by the state for emergency response planning, training and other activities; water, storm water, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.
Checks to municipalities are expected to be distributed in early July.
