HARRISBURG – Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) today announced that the city of Butler was awarded a $102,000 Blight Remediation Grant to demolish the Memorial Park Pool and Bathhouse.
The pool, located at Butler Memorial Park, has been closed for 15 years. The Butler County Redevelopment Authority applied for the grant which will the abandoned pool and demolishing the pool house and leaving the green space and future development for community use.
“The pool building, bathhouse/locker room, pump house and fenced-in area have been vacant, unused and have become hazards in recent years,” said Mustello. “While it is sad to see old, deteriorating structures go, this is an important part of the growth for the city. By removing the pool, it makes room for new development, which is the life blood of our community.”
Mustello advocated for funding under the program which is administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The program funds the creation of blight plans or projects to demolish, acquire and/or rehabilitate blighted properties or properties destroyed by natural disasters.
“This is a step in the right direction for our area,” said Mustello. “I am pleased to see state funds supporting this worthwhile project.”
